Beyond Expectation

Signs and Wonders

Matthew 24:24 - "For there shall rise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders: insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."

A time is coming when the world will see the signs and wonders in store for the last days. The stage is set up, and the actors are ready to begin the last show. False Christs, false prophets, a leopard beast, another beast with horns like a lamb, and the dragon. Each one is playing their part to deviate or to deceive the Israel of God in his march toward the heavenly city.

Worse of all, the world is not prepared to face the awesome events coming our way. For many years the mind of the people has been preconditioned to watch and to accept as quasi normal the supernatural creations of human ingenuity.

There is the tendency to go deeper on the thrills of the supernatural with each new presentation. How can a mind be able to recognize when the devils are taking the stage by themselves to deceive those watching the show? It is impossible for anyone to say this is from God, or this is from Satan, unless he is deeply acquainted with the teachings of the Word of God.

Even when the supernatural activities of those spiritual entities are apparently dedicated to heal or to benefit the human body, they are in reality a well designed trap to separate souls from God and to throw them directly into the final hell.

On the actual stage of the world there is one political superpower, the United States of America; and one religious superpower, the Papacy of the Roman Catholic Church. If the whole world is going to be involved in the apocalyptic events of the end, surely these two powers will be playing their prophetic role in the final drama according to Bible prophecy. What they did in the past is indicative of their actions in the future. The pages of history, past or future, will match the pages of prophecy.

Prophecy said: "there come a falling away first," an apostasy. (2 Thessa. 2:3) That apostasy began to infiltrate the Christian Church in the fourth and fifth centuries after Christ. When Constantine enacted the Edict of Milan on 313 AD giving legal status to the Christian Church, the persecution against the Christians ended, and then the rich and those in power came into the church. They brought their traditions and beliefs of the pagan world. The apostasy made serious inroads into the doctrines of the church, even into the Law of God, the Ten Commandments. They transferred the observance of the Seventh-Day Sabbath of the Lord, in the fourth commandment, to the first day of the week Sunday; dropped the Second Commandment that forbids to worship images, and then, divided the last commandment in two to complete the Ten Commandments. God wrote the original with His finger on two tables of stone. (Exo. 20:2-17)

According to James 2:10, "Whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." "For sin is the transgression of the law." (1 John 3:4)

The Apostle Paul continues with his prophetic insight into the future: "and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition: who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he is God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God." (2 Thessa. 2:3, 4)

The prophet Daniel was a little more specific to describe that growing power as "the little horn" who came out of the head of the four beast (Rome); and in so doing he uprooted three other horns.

Three of the Arian powers which were opposing the Christian Church and not believing in the Divinity of Christ were destroyed by the armies of Rome: the Heruli in 493 AD, the Vandals in 534 AD, and the Ostrogoths in 538 AD. In 533 AD, Emperor Justinian declared the Bishop of Rome the head of all churches and offered him the throne of power, which was not available until the Ostrogoths were driven away in 538 AD. This gave beginning to 1260 years of religious and political power, in one hand, of the Papacy over the nations and kingdoms of Europe.

Daniel saw the serious consequences of such amalgamation of power: "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hands until a time and times and the dividing of time." (Daniel 7:25) In this time was included the terrible Inquisition to which historians assign more than 50 millions of souls that were under the confiscation of their goods, torture and death. The computation of that time amounts to 1260 years which reaches to 1798 AD. On February 10, General Berthier took Pope Pius VI prisoner and put an end to the political power of the Papacy, for a while.

This story is expanded again, to add more details, by John the Revelator under the symbol of a leopard beast. (Rev. 13:1-10) Verse 3 refers to the deadly wound inflicted upon the beast when Napoleon sent Berthier to do away with the Papacy. The Papacy has remained "in the wilderness," under consequential restrain, but little by little is regaining his power. On February 11, 1929, a concordat was signed by Cardinal Gaspari and Mussolini restoring the lands of the Vatican to the Holy See, so the pope can be again a king among the sovereigns on earth. Today "all the world wondered after the beast." (Rev. 13:3) Greater signs and wonders are offered to the world when the wound is fully healed and the Papacy regains full power as he had in the Middle Ages.

As the kingdom of the Papacy was coming to his final years in 1798 another power was rising up in the West; he had the appearance of a beast with two horns like a lamb. (Rev. 13:11)

In our eyes, that power might have been like a bison, coming out of the earth, in an area sparsely populated. The two horns are a fitting representation of the powers of Republicanism and Protestantism; the power of the church separated from the power of the state. People from the old World came here fleeing from religious persecution, as they were looking for a country without a king and a church without a pope. In this land of freedom, the Constitution is protecting the individual rights of the people.

In spite of the commitment of the nation to maintain the separation of church and state, prophecy is revealing a change of policy: "and he spake as a dragon." Great signs and wonders are coming right away: church and state on one hand: "And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed." (Rev. 13:12)

Everyone would say: "How is it possible, that at last, a nation that was remarkably blessed by Almighty God could turn itself upside down in a few years? In this drama we cannot forget the dragon, he is not going to give up his kingdom for nothing. He appeared to Eve using the serpent as a medium, and was able to deceive her and to take the dominion that God had given man. To Eve he said: "Ye shall not surely die... your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods..." (Gen. 3:4, 5) Since then he is working feverishly to keep that belief alive in the mind of most living beings, by way of the immortality of the soul, reincarnation and a conscious idea that we are living and observed by a whole world of spirits of the dead.

When Daniel had the vision of the world empires, the number four, Imperial Rome was represented by a dragon, to indicate how much Rome was taking from the real dragon: "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceived the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Rev. 12:9) Lucifer was created a perfect angel and served God until pride destroyed his love and obedience to God and to the Law of His Creator. (Isaiah 14:12-17; Eze. 28:12-19; Rev. 12:7, 8)

When the Son of God came to this world in human flesh, to overcome the devil as a man, Satan dared to carry Jesus to a pinnacle of the Temple, and again to the top of a high mountain, in a desperate attempt to brake the will of the Savior and His loyalty to the Father for a chance to keep his dominion on earth. But Jesus overcame the devil. (Matthew 4:1-10) With His death the Son of man paid the penalty of death that came by disobedience of our first parents, and with His resurrection He conquered death and can bring His children out of the grave on the morning of the resurrection.

The Son of God referred to the devil as: "He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:44)

The greatest lie ever told mankind is the one Satan told Eve: "Ye shall not surely die... and ye shall be as gods..." (Gen. 3:4,5) Millions of people around the earth still believe it. God had said: "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shall not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." (Gen. 2:17)

"For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they anymore reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." (Ecc. 9:5, 6)

Since the Word of God is telling us that our dear family, that have passed away, are sleeping and resting unconscious in the grave until the resurrection, who are those spirits that come out impersonating anyone of the dead? None other than the fallen angels that were cast out with Satan: one third of the angelic host. (Rev. 12:4, 7-9) Their job is to deceive the most they can, even the very elect. (Matt. 24:24) "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they receive not the love of the truth, that they might be saved." (2 Tessa. 2:10) "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of the world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:12)

For disobeying the express command of the Lord, King Saul was left with no more word from God. When inquiring from the witch at Endor, no doubt, Saul was deceived by the spirit impersonating Samuel the prophet. (1 Samuel 28:6-19) In the last days, miracles and wonders are performed in the eyes of the living to keep them believing the first lie: "ye shall not surely die." (Gen. 3:4) How can you tell them that the father or mother that came back from the dead, to visit them, was not really the impersonated family? What about if they impersonate one of Christ's disciples, Mary the mother of Jesus, or John Paul the II who died April 2, 2005? For sure, the devil is going to personate Christ to deceive the most people. "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light" (2 Cor. 11:14) "Many shall come in my name, saying I am Christ" (Luke 21:8)

With the approaching of the last days, there is a growing interest in the supernatural. People in general, instead of going to the Word of God for truth, they go to anything else fascinating and spectacular. Where can we find a numerical index of people curiosity? In a newspaper: the Orlando Sentinel, Sunday, July 15, 2007. Reporting the fascinating record of the Harry Potter books, it put out the answer: "The books have been translated into 60 plus languages, more than 325 millions copies have been sold."

If 325 millions minds are preconditioned with the dazzling wonders dormant in those pages, what will be the outcome when "he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men"? (Rev. 13:13) At this point the deception extends to the entire world, when the deceivers tell the multitude that this is a proof that God is on their side.

While the children of darkness cry aloud celebrating their signs and wonders, the children of God are at work proclaiming the three angels message of salvation, with power from on high, faith in Christ, and loving obedience to the Word of God and to the Ten Commandments of the Lord. (Rev. 14:6-12) For them the time is short, and cannot stop until their mission is finished. The seventh-day Sabbath is at the center of the Law, it becomes now the center of an urgent decision with final consequences for salvation or eternal damnation: 1. Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy, and honor the Lord, or 2. Trample on it and remain with the forces of darkness, and the enemies of the Lord. One way or the other, it is the choice of everyone. --E.F., Aug. 2007

A word for the last days ...
Soon grievous troubles will arise among the nations--trouble that will not cease until Jesus comes... The wars and rumors of war, the destruction by fire and flood, say clearly that the time of trouble, which is to increase until the end, is very near at hand. Maranatha, p. 25.
